Bearcat softball geared up for opener
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s softball team will head to Leavenworth, Kan. to open the season against NAIA St. Mary’s Saturday for a two game set.
The Bearcats are coming off a 20-win season in 2012 where they went 20-31 and 7-13 in conference play and made their third consecutive MIAA tournament. Northwest comes into the season led by nine seniors.
Senior Hailee Hendricks returns as the team’s top hitter from 2012. Hendricks led the Bearcats in hitting (.333) and doubles (9) as well as carrying a .357 on-base percentage. The senior is coming off back to back seasons where she earned MIAA all-conference honors.
Senior pitcher Jenna Creger posted 107 stikeouts in 2012 giving her the all-time school record with 407 in her three years as a Bearcat. Creger was named all-conference her sophomore and junior seasons at Northwest. The senior carried a team low 3.49 earned run average with 14 complete games last season.
The first game of the double-header between Northwest and St. Mary’s will begin at 12 p.m. The Bearcats will return home March 8 to take on Lincoln at 1 p.m.
