Bearcats look to clinch MIAA Tourney berth
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team will make its final push for the MIAA postseason tournament as they host Truman State on Friday before its season finale against Sioux Falls on Saturday.
The Bearcats currently sit at 6-12 in the MIAA and tied with Southwest Baptist in seventh place, however Northwest holds the tie breaker after a sweep of their purple foes earlier in April. Northwest and Truman are set for a first pitch in game one at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader sweep of TSU would guarantee a spot in the MIAA tournament.
However a TSU sweep would propel the Bulldogs past Northwest and into the tournament leaving the Bearcats in need of help. A sweep by Lincoln of SBU on Friday would also result in Northwest qualifying for the MIAA tournament. Emporia State claimed the regular season title and top seed over the weekend finishing with an unblemished 20-0 conference mark.
On Saturday the Bearcats will close out their regular season by hosting their “Strike Out Cancer” promotion, and will be donning special pink jerseys. The Bearcats are helping in an effort to continue to raise cancer awareness, and will have a special ceremonial first pitch prior to game one. The team is inviting all fans who have been affected by cancer to attend Saturday’s games and be a part of the day. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. from Bearcat Field.
