ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Errors haunted Northwest Missouri State as they dropped a pair of games to 10th-ranked Missouri Western 9-0 and 8-3 Friday in MIAA softball action at MWSU Softball Field.

The Bearcats saw their record move to 11-11 on the year and 2-2 in league play. The Griffons improved to 23-4 overall and stayed perfect in the MIAA at 6-0.

In game one the Bearcats were shut out by MWSU for only the second time this season as the Griffons scored nine runs on nine hits. Western starter Jackie Bishop pitched a one-hit shutout in the five inning victory walking none and striking out nine Bearcats.

Jenna Creger was charged with the loss going 3.2 innings allowing eight hits. Only six of Western’s nine runs were earned as the Bearcats committed three errors in game one.

Western tallied four runs in the bottom of the second and added five runs in the fourth putting the run rule in effect.

Josie Van Houten notched the only hit for Northwest keeping Bishop from pitching a perfect game.

Miscues in game two propelled the Griffons to an 8-3 win in the nightcap.

The Bearcats committed five errors in the loss as Morgan Brunmeier picked up the loss in the circle. Brunmeier allowed six runs, however only three were earned while walking none and striking out one.

Hailee Hendricks returned from injury to pick up two RBIs in game two blasting a two-run homer for her only hit of the game. Hendricks homer came after Kristine Labertew walked and Kylie Cantrell hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.

However, the Griffons had built a 5-0 lead before Northwest got on the scoreboard and added another three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Northwest continues conference play Saturday as they head to Emporia for an afternoon double header with the Lady Hornets. First pitch is set for noon from Turnbull Field.
