Northwest softball picked to finish fifth
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State softball was selected to finish fifth in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll released Thursday by the conference office.
The Bearcats finished last season with a record of 25-19 overall and went 14-8 in conference play.
Missouri Western was picked to repeat as conference champs this season after sharing the title with Emporia State and Nebraska-Omaha last year. The Griffons received eight first-place votes and totaled 98 points as coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
Emporia State received three first-place votes and collected 93 points as they were picked to place second followed by Missouri Southern with 73 points. Central Missouri with 67 was picked to finish just ahead of the Bearcats as they received 66 points.
Northwest begins the 2012 season on Feb. 11 in Springfield, Mo. as the Bearcats will face Drury University in a double-header. The Bearcats will open the season with their first 16 games on the road before making their home debut on March 9th when they host Lincoln University.
