Bearcats drop two in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Rockhurst pitchers Megan Holm and Kayla Hoyer combined for 14 shutout innings as the Hawks took two games from Northwest Missouri State Wednesday at Loyola Park. Scores were 2-0 and 4-0.
Northwest (24-13) combined for eight hits against the two pitchers. Lauren Chatigny was 2-for-3 and had half of the Bearcats' hits against Hoyer in game two. Holm struck out nine in her complete-game effort in game one.
Rockhurst (12-24) got three hits during the twin bill from Leslie Furdek, who broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one with a one-out single that scored Toya Nelson. Furdek singled and scored in the fourth inning and doubled and scored in the sixth inning of game two.
Despite the loss, Northwest pitcher Jenna Creger extended her string of complete-game performances of giving up one earned run or fewer to eight. Creger (12-7) allowed five hits and struck out six in the game one loss.
