Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State and Southwest Baptist softball teams split a pair of games Friday in a series between two programs with the same mascot. The "green" Bearcats from Maryville won the first game 2-0. The "purple" Bearcats from Bolivar took the nightcap 3-2.

Southwest Baptist improved to 5-17 this season with two wins against Northwest. The "green" Bearcats have mustered two earned runs against SBU in those three games.

Northwest pitcher Jenna Creger had 10 strikeouts in throwing a three-hit shutout in game one. Josie Rose struck out 11 and allowed three hits in pitching Southwest Baptist to the win in game two. Rose got Angela Wright to line out to left field with the bases loaded to end the game.

Creger (11-6) hasn't allowed more than one earned run in 10 of her last 11 starts and threw her fifth shutout of the season. She took a no-hitter into the fourth inning before giving up a one-out single to Sarah Brison.

Northwest (20-10, 9-3 MIAA) scored on an errant throw to break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning and Hailee Hendricks added an RBI single in the sixth. Karly Bitters (1-9) took the loss after allowing six hits and striking out five.

Southwest Baptist scored a first-inning run off Morgan Brunmeier in game two. Rhiannon Mendez was hit by a pitch with two outs and Brison sent a shot to the wall in left field that scored Mendez.

Devon McNeal made it 3-0 with a two-out, two-run single up the middle in the fourth. Rose, meanwhile, totaled nine strikeouts and allowed just one hit through the first five innings.

A leadoff walk and a dropped flyball helped Northwest make it 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Rose got pinch hitter Kristine Labertew to pop out to short with two outs to end the inning. Rose issued seven walks in the game.

Northwest catcher Kristen Hessel worked a 12-pitch walk to load the bases with two outs in the seventh. Rose then hit Dacey Hassey with the first pitch to make it 3-2. Wright made solid contact, but her liner went straight to Jenna Niffen in left.

Northwest continues its home slate with a doubleheader Saturday against Central Missouri. Game one is slated for a noon start.
