One out away
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's softball team was one out away from wins in three separate innings Sunday, but saw its seven-game winning streak ended following losses to Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist at the MIAA Crossover hosted by Southwest Baptist. Both scores were 5-4.
Central Missouri (15-9) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie Northwest at 3-3, then scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win 5-4. Nicole Norberg had a game-tying single with two outs in the seventh. Braylyn Bivens tied the game at 4-4 with a two-out single in the eighth and Kasey Martin followed two batters later with a walk-off single.
Southwest Baptist (2-8) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a game-winning, two-out, two-run single by Megan Myers. Northwest had led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Northwest right fielder Kit Daugherty had two hits and stole two bases in both games in extending her hitting streak to 11 games. She's batting .488 during the streak with 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Daugherty was 9-for-16 (.563) in helping the Bearcats to a 2-2 record at the Crossover. She leads Northwest with a .420 average.
Kristen Uthe drove in two runs against Central Missouri and Dacey Hassey had three of Northwest's six hits against Southwest Baptist. Hassey was 6-for-11 (.545) in four Crossover contests.
The Bearcats (11-7) return to the field and begin MIAA play Friday and Saturday with road doubleheaders against Washburn and Fort Hays State, respectively.
