Northwest blanks opponents at Crossover
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State pitchers Jenna Creger and Morgan Brunmeier threw a pair of shutouts to lead the Bearcats to two wins Friday at the MIAA Crossover hosted by Southwest Baptist University. Northwest beat Pittsburg State 6-0, Missouri Southern 8-0 and have won seven in a row.
Creger (6-3) threw her fourth consecutive complete-game shutout and has not allowed a run in her last 26 complete innings. She struck out eight, walked none and allowed six hits in earning the win against Pittsburg State.
Brunmeier (5-1) allowed five singles in pitching her third shutout of the year. She struck out two and walked nobody in six innings. Of Northwest's 11 wins this season, seven have been shutouts.
Kit Daugherty's lead-off home run against Pittsburg State set the tone for Bearcat hitters who batted a combined .414 in the two games. Daugherty was 5-for-8 and scored five times. She's hit safely in her last nine games. Lauren Chatigny also finished 5-for-8 and crossed home twice.
Kristen Hessel extended her hitting streak to 12 games, had three hits Friday and drove in a run in each contest. Dacey Hassey was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against Pittsburg State. Kristen Uthe drove in two runs against Missouri Southern and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that plated the game-ending run.
Northwest (11-5) continues play at the Crossover Saturday with games against Emporia State (2 p.m.) and Lincoln (4 p.m.). Play concludes Sunday with duals with Central Missouri (Noon) and Southwest Baptist (4 p.m.)
