Northwest drops two to Central Oklahoma
EDMOND, Okla.-Central Oklahoma out-hit Northwest Missouri State 22-6 and out-scored the Bearcats 15-1 in earning a doubleheader sweep Wednesday at Broncho Field. Scores went 7-1 and 8-0.
It was the first games of the season for Central Oklahoma. Northwest, which swept Northeastern State Tuesday, is even at 2-2.
Kacie Edwards and Kaycee Raines each went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three runs scored during the twin bill for the Bronchos. Raines hit a solo homer in game one and and had an RBI double in game two.
Pitchers Amanda McClelland and Rachael Steverson threw complete games in the circle for Central Oklahoma. Steverson allowed one run on four hits in the opener. McClelland pitched two-hit ball in five innings of game two. Both had eight strikeouts.
Kit Daugherty and Hailee Hendricks combined for four of Northwest's six hits Wednesday. Daugherty doubled and tripled in game one. Hendricks doubled but was stranded on the bases in game two. Freshman Angela Wright doubled in game two. She's 2-for-3 on the season with two doubles.
Northwest will next compete at a tournament hosted by Missouri Southern Feb. 26-27.
