NFCA Announces All-Region Team
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior utility player Dacey Hassey and senior designated player Erin Leslie have been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association's all-region team announced last week. The duo was the Bearcats' top two hitters this season.
Hassey, a first-team selection, hit .375 and tied Leslie for the team lead in RBIs with 38. Hassey played all 50 games and earned starts at third base, catcher, right field and designated player during the season. She had 15 doubles, four home runs and scored 24 runs. Hassey struck out eight times in 160 at bats and was the 53rd toughest player to strikeout in the nation.
Leslie, a second-team choice, led the Bearcats with a .445 batting average, eight home runs, 38 RBIs, 44 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. With the exception of runs scored, all of those marks are career bests.
Leslie hit safely in 43 of the team's 50 games and led the MIAA in hits per game. Her batting average ranks third in the South Central Region and 23rd in the nation. In other regional rankings, Leslie ranks third in on-base percentage (.505) and fourth in slugging percentage (.713).
Hassey was one of six MIAA players to be selected to the first team. Six MIAA players joined Leslie on the second team. The NFCA's All-America team will be released in a ceremony Wednesday evening in St. Joseph, Mo., the host of the 2010 NCAA Division II Softball Championships.
