Northwest Pitchers Shut Down Lopers
KEARNEY, Neb.-Three Northwest Missouri State pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and no walks during two Bearcat wins against Nebraska-Kearney Thursday at Dryden Park. Scores went 8-2 and 5-2.
Northwest's game one starter Jenna Creger tied a career-high with seven strikeouts and allowed six hits in six innings to improve to 7-8 on the season. Nicole Ackelson (6-3) started for the Bearcats in game two and allowed five hits and one earned run in six innings. Morgan Brunmeier pitched the seventh inning of both contests and picked up the save in the nightcap.
Offensively, the Bearcats were led by Lauren Chatigny, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in game two and had four hits on the day. Kit Daugherty extended her hitting streak to 12 games and hit her fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning of game two. Erin Leslie went 3-for-6 on the day with two walks.
The Lopers scored two runs in the first inning of game one only to see the Bearcats reel off 12 unanswered runs spanning both games. Three of Nebraska-Kearney's runs came off two home runs. The fourth was an unearned run in the sixth inning of game two. The Lopers (6-19) have dropped 14 of their last 15 games after starting the season 5-5.
