Leslie Breaks Northwest Softball's Runs Record
JOPLIN, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State second baseman Erin Leslie became Northwest softball's all-time leading scorer after crossing home three times in the Bearcats' 6-4 win against Northeastern State Sunday in the final day of the Pittsburg State/Missouri Southern Crossover Tournament at Four Seasons Sports Complex.
Northwest (6-6) finished 4-1 in tournament play.
Leslie went 2-for-3 against the Riverhawks (3-9) with a double and stole three bases. Her 122 runs are one more than Lindsay Stephenson recorded from 2003-07. Leslie also ranks sixth on the program's RBI list with 87 and is fourth in career stolen bases with 37.
Junior designated player Dacey Hassey had three hits and drove in four runs for the second game in a row. Hassey batted .562 (9-for-16) in the tournament's five games with 11 RBIs and three runs scored. She leads Northwest with 16 RBIs through 12 games.
Junior first baseman Kaila Ballard led off the top of the sixth inning with her third home run of the season, which tied the game at 3-3. Northwest scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.
Northeastern State loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Northwest freshman pitcher Jenna Creger (3-4) struck out Jenny Collins and pinch-hitter April Marsee to earn her third win of the season.
