Bellevue Box Score | Fort Hays State Box Score | Missouri Southern Box Score

PITTSBURG, Kan.-A 13-run performance in a win against Bellevue Saturday morning was overshadowed by the injuries and two losses that followed in the afternoon portion of the final day of the Pittsburg State Tournament. Northwest went 2-3 at the tourney to move to 7-15 on the season.

Senior outfielder Megan Simpson missed Friday's games due to illness. Her parents reunited her with her teammates Saturday and she was immediately called into action when freshman left fielder Lauren Peters went down with a leg injury in the first inning against Bellevue.

Simpson went on to score three runs as part of a 2-for-3 effort which included a two-run homer, her first of the season and 24th of her career - tying her for third on Northwest's all-time list.

Sarah Saladino hit a three-run shot as part of a five-run first inning for the Bearcats. Jenna Smith followed suit with her first collegiate round tripper, marking the first time the Bearcats have gone back-to-back this season.

Casey Carper went 3-for-3 with two triples, a walk and scored three times against the Bruins. Tiffany Carter also had three hits in the opener for the Bearcats.

Northwest pounded out 15 hits in the opening game, but combined for seven in the two games that followed. Adrian Mohr pitched a three-hit shutout as Fort Hays State blanked the Bearcats 2-0. Missouri Southern pitcher Whitney Clute went 4-for-4 at the plate with three home runs and seven RBIs in a 12-2, five-inning win against Northwest in the finale.

Missouri Southern's Megan Roark, the fourth batter of the game, sent a line drive off the arm of Northwest starting pitcher Kelsey Resa, who left the game and didn't return. The losses of Resa and Peters trimmed the Bearcats' roster down to 10 position players and two pitchers.

Carter went a combined 5-for-8 at the plate Saturday and hit .643 in five games at the tournament. Erin Leslie had four hits Saturday to move her season average above .300. Carter and Casey Carper lead the team with .364 and .342 averages, respectively.

Next: Northwest plays road doubleheaders against Wayne State Tuesday and against Missouri Western Thursday.
