Northwest Splits With East Central
EDMOND, Okla.-Northwest Missouri State junior second baseman Erin Leslie and senior centerfielder Casey Carper combined for 11 hits during a doubleheader split with East Central Saturday. The Bearcats (1-3) won the opener 3-2 in nine innings before dropping the nightcap 15-7.
Carper went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in a two-run ninth inning of game one. Leslie homered in game one before recording the first four-hit game of her career in game two. Leslie was 4-for-4 in the nightcap with three doubles, an RBI and three runs scored.
The duo combined for all but six of the Bearcats' hits on the day. Carper went 10-for-15 (.667) during the weekend set in Edmond while Leslie finished 7-for-16 (.438).
Senior pitcher Cola Krueger (1-1) pitched all nine innings of game one to earn her first win of the season. Krueger allowed six hits, walked four and struck out two. She stranded a runner on third in the bottom of the eighth inning and got consecutive ground balls with the tying run in scoring position to close out the bottom of the ninth.
Freshman shortstop Jennifer Bohle broke the 1-1 tie with an RBI double that plated Jenna Smith, who began the inning at second base due to the international tiebreaker rule. Bohle came around and scored from second on an infield single from Carper.
Tiffany Carter's three-run home run gave Northwest a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning of game two. It was second homer for Carter in four games. Carter drove in four runs in game two and leads the Bearcats with eight RBIs this season.
The Tigers (3-1) scored 12 runs in their final two at bats to take a 15-4 lead. Leslie and Carter drove in a run each during a three-run seventh inning for Northwest.
