Carper, Channell Earn All-Region Honors
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior centerfielder Casey Carper and senior shortstop Cortney Channell have been named to the 2008 Daktronics All-North Central Region Softball Team as voted on by the region's Sports Information Directors. Carper earned first-team honors, while Channell was a second-team selection.
Carper, a native of Sulphur Springs, Texas, hit a team-best .411 this year with 31 RBIs and 46 runs scored. Carper leads the MIAA and ranks third nationally in triples. Her 11 this season are a program record. She also ranks 66th nationally in batting average and 90th in runs per game.
Carper ranks in the top-10 of the MIAA in six offensive categories including second in hits (76), fourth in average and fifth in on-base percentage (.463). She has a team-high 24 multi-hit games this season and has three 4-for-4 efforts.
Channell, a native of Kansas City, Kan., hit .350 this season with a team-best nine home runs and added 42 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
Channell also ranks in the MIAA's top 10 in six categories, including third in RBIs, sixth in homers and seventh in hits (56) and slugging percentage (.594). She had 14 multi-hit games and had a season-long, 14-game hit streak spanning more than one month's time.
The Bearcats (32-22) earned their fourth NCAA tournament berth this season and finished third at the MIAA tournament in Shawnee, Kan., May 1-3. Northwest's 32 wins are the fourth-most in program history.
