Leslie, Carper Earn NFCA All-Region Honors
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State sophomore second baseman Erin Leslie and junior centerfielder Casey Carper were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) All-Region team announced Thursday. Both were second-team selections.
Leslie, a native of Shawnee, Kan., is hitting .357 with four home runs, 28 RBIs and a team-best 48 runs scored heading into NCAA regional play this week. Leslie leads the MIAA and ranks 22nd in the nation with 1.09 runs per game. She also ranks fourth in the league with 16 stolen bases and with a .469 on-base percentage.
Leslie has started 44 games at second base this season and has batted lead off for the Bearcats in 42. She has 16 multi-hit games, including three three-hit efforts, and nine multi-RBI contests. She also enjoyed an eight-game hitting streak earlier this season.
Carper, a native of Sulphur Springs, Texas, is hitting a team-best .417 with 31 RBIs and 45 runs scored. Carper leads the MIAA and ranks third nationally in triples. Her 11 this season is a program record. She also ranks 66th nationally in batting average and 90th in runs per game.
Carper ranks in the top-10 of the MIAA in six offensive categories including second in hits (73), fourth in average and fifth in on-base percentage (.466). She has a team-high 23 multi-hit games this season and has three 4-for-4 efforts.
The Bearcats (31-20) earned their fourth NCAA tournament berth this season and are competing at the North Central Regional Tournament at Emporia State University this week. Northwest's 31 wins are the fourth-most in program history.
