Bearcats Advance to NCAA Tournament
EMPORIA, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State earned the region's No. 7 seed and faces Northern Sun regular season champion Southwest Minnesota State on May 7 at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA North Central Regional Tournament. It's the fourth postseason appearance in program history and the second in the last three seasons.
Wednesday's game will be the second between the two teams this season. The two met earlier on March 29 in Omaha, Neb., where the Mustangs took that game 10-8, scoring the last two runs in the sixth inning. Northwest (31-20) and Southwest Minnesota State (37-9) are even in the all-time series at 1-1.
A win or a loss will pit the Bearcats with either No. 3 Central Missouri or No. 6 Winona State on Thursday.
Emporia State will host the eight-team, double-elimination tournament as the region's top seed at Trusler Sports Complex. The winner of each regional tournament advances to the national tournament May 14-17 in Houston, Texas, as part of the Division II Championships Festival.
