Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State freshman Kristen Hessel drove in three of her team's four runs to help the Bearcats sweep a doubleheader against Central Missouri Tuesday at Bearcat Field. Scores went 1-0 and 3-2.

Hessel delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one which scored pinch runner Jenna Smith from second base and plated the game's only run.

Then, in her first at bat of game two, Hessel gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead with a two-run single to right centerfield. Hessel, the designated player, was 2-for-5 in the twin bill.

It was the final home games and conference games for Northwest (28-17, 11-7 MIAA), which will close its regular season this weekend at a tournament in Mankato, Minn.

It's the second time in three years the Bearcats have swept the Jennies (30-18, 12-6), who finish in second place in the MIAA standings.

Hessell rescued Northwest starter Cola Krueger, who struck out eight, walked none and allowed four singles to the Jennies thru seven innings of work. Krueger faced three more than the minimum and didn't allow a runner to reach third.

Krueger (11-7) has allowed one run in her last three starts, all complete-game efforts and all Northwest wins. She's struck out 21 hitters in 21 innings and allowed 13 hits.

Kelly Morris (16-8) allowed five hits and struck out nine to earn the win in game two. She gave up solo home runs to Tarese Ely-Myers and Kherri-Dean Hummer in the second and sixth innings, respectively.

Morris worked around a lead-off single in the third, got a strikeout with two on and two out in the fourth and retired the side in order in the seventh. Her 16 wins this season are the third-most in program history.

The Bearcats made it 3-1 in the third after Erin Leslie led off the inning with a double and later scored on a ground ball by Courtney Channell. Channell played for the first time in seven games due to injury. Her .364 batting average ranks third on the team.
