Northwest Outscores SBU 14-2
BOLIVAR, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State pitchers Cola Krueger and Kelly Morris used complete-game efforts to shut down Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader Friday at SBU Softball Field.
Krueger pitched her second shut out of the season in a 4-0 win in game one. Morris allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five in a 10-2 win in game two.
The wins move the Bearcats (24-17) even in the MIAA at 7-7. The purple Bearcats from Southwest Baptist fall to 13-21 overall and 3-8 in the league.
Casey Carper tied Northwest's single-season record for triples in the opener and drove in two runs in the fifth inning with her ninth this season. Carper joins Karen Hogel atop the list. Hogel had nine triples during the 1994 campaign.
The Bearcats held a 3-0 lead through five innings and added an insurance run on an RBI single by Tiffany Carter in the top of the seventh. Krueger allowed six hits and struck out eight in the opener.
Carter was 2-for-5 with an RBI double and a three-run homer, her fifth of the season, in the nightcap. Tiffany Graham blasted her fourth round-tripper, a solo shot in the seventh. Graham was 3-for-6 in the twin bill and totaled four runs on the day.
Erin Leslie and Janelle Krohn each had two hits in game two. Leslie singled and scored in the first inning before plating two runs with a double in the fourth that broke a 2-2 tie. Northwest had 10 hits in the nightcap and scored 10 runs or more for the 11th time this season.
Up Next: Northwest continues its weekend roadtrip with a doubleheader at Missouri Southern Saturday. Game one is slated to begin at noon.
