MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State junior outfielder Megan Simpson hit a home run in each game of a doubleheader with Wayne State Thursday at Bearcat Field including a walk-off, two-run shot in the nightcap. The Bearcats took the opener 10-7 and game two, 11-2, in five innings.
Simpson has three home runs this season and 20 for her career. She led Northwest with 10 homers a year ago and is now alone in fourth place on the Bearcats’ all-time home run list.
Simpson was 5-of-8 at the plate with five RBIs during the twin bill to help Northwest improve to 11-2 in its last 13 games. The Bearcats are 13-5 overall.
Cortney Channell and Tiffany Graham had four hits each on the day. Channell extended her hitting streak to a season-best seven games. She’s 11-of-21 (.524) with two home runs and seven RBIs in that span.
Tiffany Carter also homered for the Bearcats, who combined for 26 hits on the day. Her two-run shot to right centerfield in the fourth gave the Bearcats a 6-0 lead in game two. Carter was 3-for-5 Thursday with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Kelly Morris (8-3) picked up both wins in the circle for Northwest. She entered the first game with her team down 6-4, but was the benefactor of a five-run fifth inning for the Bearcats. Morris started game two and scattered four hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. She stuck out 11 on the day against two walks.
