Six in a Row For Northwest Softball
PITTSBURG, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State pounded out 20 hits and scored 18 runs in earning two wins Sunday at Pittsburg State's Softball Classic. The Bearcats (8-3) beat Henderson State 6-2 and Missouri Southern 12-2 in five innings to extend their win streak to six games.
Erin Leslie and Casey Carper had four hits each on the day. Leslie was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and season-high four RBIs against Missouri Southern. She also scored three times. Carper was 1-for-3 against Henderson State and 3-for-3 against the Lions to extend her hitting streak to seven games.
Cola Krueger (5-1) and Kelly Morris (3-2) earned wins in the circle for the Bearcats. Krueger allowed three hits in 4 2/3 innings against Henderson State while striking out three. Morris struck out seven in her complete-game effort against Missouri Southern.
Tiffany Graham hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs against Henderson State. The Bearcats scored three runs in the second and third innings to take a 6-1 lead.
The Lady Reddies loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Morris struck out Dea Bates to end the threat. Morris got the final seven outs of the game to earn her first save of the season.
Northwest had 14 hits in five innings against the Lions and led 10-2 after a five-run third inning. Tiffany Carter had an RBI double in the second inning as part of her 3-for-4 effort. Leslie tripled with the bases loaded in the third and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Carper to make it 9-2.
Kaila Ballard and Kristen Hessel each had two hits in the nightcap. Missouri Southern registered four hits in the game off Morris.
