Simpson Named to Daktronics All-Region Second Team
ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Northwest Missouri State sophomore Megan Simpson (Blue Springs, Mo.) has been named to the 2007 Softball Daktronics, Inc. All-North Central Region Second Team as the utility player. Players are eligible for the utility position having played two field positions in at least 50 percent of the team's games. The First and Second Teams were chosen by region sports information directors in this being the inaugural season.
"Megan really stepped in and has been a consistent hitter for us," said head coach Ryan Anderson. "She has not only been consistent with her home runs but her average. After losing three senior outfielders this season, she has a great chance to fill in one of those spots in 2008."
A graduate of Blue Springs South High School, Simpson led the team with 10 home runs, which ties for the third best mark in season history at Northwest. Simpson was honored on the All-MIAA Honorable Mention Team after hitting .333 in 43 games and posting 27 runs and 29 RBIs. She already stands fifth in career homers (17).
Megan started 21 games at designated player, 17 games in left field, three games at 1B and one game at right field. During the week of March 12-19, Megan won MIAA Hitter of the Week accolades when she hit 9-for-20 (.450) with 11 runs scored, seven RBIs and five homers. She hit four solo bombs during a five at-bat stretch and had three multi-hit games during that stretch.
The Bearcats ended their season with a 25-18 overall record and a No. 5 seed in the MIAA Tournament. Earlier in the season, Northwest was ranked in the NFCA Coaches' Poll three times reaching as high as No. 22 (March 7).
Northwest extended its school record streak to eight straight seasons of 20-plus wins.
