Softball Falls One Spot to No. 8 in Regional Poll
INDIANAPOLIS - Northwest Missouri State softball falls one spot to No. 8 in the fourth edition of the NCAA Division II North Central Region poll, announced today. Northwest is currently 23-16 on the season and 10-8 in the league standings. The Bearcats went 3-3 in the last week including a sweep of Pittsburg State on Tuesday (May 1).
For the first time, Minnesota State vaults ahead to the No. 1 slot going 9-0 last week. Emporia State falls back to No. 2 followed by Southwest Minnesota State, Nebraska-Omaha and Central Missouri from No. 3-5. In all, five MIAA schools are included on the list.
The top eight teams from each of the eight regions will be selected for NCAA postseason play announced early on Monday, May 7. Last season, Northwest went to their third ever regional tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Against regionally-ranked teams this season, the Bearcats are 4-8 overall with the breakdown of 0-2 against Central Missouri; 1-1 against Emporia State; 0-2 against Minnesota State; 1-1 against Missouri Western; 0-2 against Nebraska-Omaha, 1-1 versus Washburn and 1-0 against Winona State.
Northwest will participate in the MIAA Tournament slated for May 4-5 in Shawnee, Kan. The Tournament bracket will be announced sometime on Thursday.
