Northwest Softball Stays at No. 7 in North Central Region<br/>INDIANAPOLIS - Northwest Missouri State softball stays at No. 7 in the third installment of the NCAA Division II North Central Region poll, announced today. Northwest is currently 20-13 on the season and 7-5 in the league standings. The Bearcats split three conference doubleheaders last week but picked up a notable win against the top-ranked regional team, Emporia State last Wednesday (April 18).
After Emporia State, Minnesota State, Southwest Minnesota State and Nebraska-Omaha hold positions two through four. Three other MIAA schools are listed in the top 10: Central Missouri (6), Washburn (8) and Missouri Western State (10).
The top eight teams from each of the eight regions will be selected for NCAA postseason play announced on Sunday, May 6. Last season, Northwest went to their third ever regional tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Against regionally-ranked teams this season, the Bearcats are 4-6 overall with the breakdown of 1-1 against Emporia State; 0-2 against Minnesota State; 1-1 against Missouri Western; 0-2 against Nebraska-Omaha, 1-1 versus Washburn and 1-0 against Winona State.
Northwest will play six conference games on the road this weekend. Due to a threat of rain on Tuesday, April 24, Northwest and Central Missouri postponed their doubleheader for Saturday, April 28 and a 11 a.m. start. Prior to that, Northwest and Pittsburg State will make-up their doubleheader on Friday, April 27 at 5 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo. The two teams were supposed to meet back on April 6 in Maryville. In another schedule alteration, Northwest and Fort Hays State will play on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. in Hays, Kan., getting in a twinbill supposed to take place back on April 10.
