Bearcats No. 5 in First North Central Region Poll; Bearcats Postpone DH vs. Pittsburg State on FridayINDIANAPOLIS - Northwest Missouri State softball holds the No. 5 ranking in the first edition of the NCAA Division II North Central Region poll, announced late yesterday (April 11). Northwest is currently 15-7 on the season and 4-2 in the league standings.
"It is great to be up there," said head coach Ryan Anderson. "We haven't had an opportunity to play a lot of those other teams, but at least we are right in the mix."
Emporia State, No. 6 in the NFCA Coaches' Top 25, heads the list of 10 regional teams with a 31-7 record. Minnesota State, Nebraska-Omaha and Southwest Minnesota State hold positions two through four ahead of Northwest.
Two other MIAA schools, Central Missouri (No. 7) and Washburn (No. 8) are mentioned.
The top eight teams from each of the eight regions will be selected for NCAA postseason play announced on Sunday, May 6. Last season, Northwest went to their third ever regional tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Against regionally-ranked teams this season, the Bearcats are 0-2 against Nebraska-Omaha, 1-1 versus Washburn and 1-0 against Winona State.
The doubleheader with Pittsburg State on Friday (April 13) has been postponed in Maryville. A make-up date will be decided at a later date. At this time, Northwest is scheduled next to host 10 other teams in the Northwest Invitational this Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.
The Bearcats have not played since sweeping a doubleheader at Truman State on April 4 and has just two games played since March 27.
