Northwest Softball Ranked in Top 25

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State softball team, winners in 18 of its last 19 games, cracked into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Softball Poll, released today. Northwest is tied with San Francisco State at No. 18. It marks the first time under head coach Susan Anderson (since 2003) that Northwest has been ranked nationally.

"It is exciting to be in the national ranking," said Anderson. "This is great for the girls to get that recognition because they are playing really well. But we have to keep performing at that high level and continue to play solid in all areas."

Two other Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) teams are mentioned in the Top 25: Emporia State at third and Washburn received five votes in the "Others Receiving Votes" category. The Bearcats stand 3-2 against nationally ranked teams in Division II - defeating No. 2 (at the time) Florida Southern on March 22, No. 14 Nebraska-Omaha on April 1 and No. 16 Caldwell (N.J) on March 19.

Humboldt State snared seven first-place votes to hold down the No. 1 spot with Florida Southern second and Emporia third.

The poll is voted on by eight NCAA Division II head coach representing the eight NCAA regions. Records are as of April 2. The next poll will be released April 19. The complete listing of all the polls can be found at www.nfca.org.

The Bearcats, who stand 23-7 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA, stay home to welcome Central Missouri State on Friday with first pitch at 2:30 p.m. Then Saturday, Northwest hosts Southwest Baptist at 2 p.m.
