Bearcats split pair with Lady Blues
MARYVILLE, Mo. -The Northwest Missouri State Softball team split a pair of games Saturday against Washburn.
The Bearcats dropped the first game 3-0 before shutting out the Lady Blues 11-0 in the second contest.
In game two, the Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to an RBI by Janelle Krohn that scored Ashley Pride. Amy Farrow scored thanks to a wild pitch later in the inning. Northwest used a nine-run second inning to pull away and win the run-shortened contest.
The Bearcats used seven hits and three errors to bat around. In the inning each batter in the Northwest lineup scored.
The inning was capped off by a Megan Simpson two-run homer to centerfield.
In game two, Sophomore Cola Krueger tossed a three-hit shutout.
Freshmen first basemen Janelle Krohn was a perfect two-for-two in the second contest and knocked in two runs.
In the first contest, Northwest was unable to generate any runs, falling 3-0. The Bearcats had only one runner reach scoring position in the contest.
All of Washburn's runs came in the fourth inning.
In the circle, pitcher Kelly Morris gave up all three runs, but struck out four Lady Blues before Lauren Lakebrink entered to pitch four scoreless innings.
Northwest returns to action next weekend when they travel to the Rebel Spring games.
