Three High School Seniors Sign to Play Softball in 2007

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State head softball coach Susan Anderson has announced today the signings of Kaila Ballard (Norwalk, Iowa), Erin Leslie (Shawnee, Kan.) and Lindsey Roorda (Omaha, Neb.) to NCAA National Letters of Intent. The trio will play for Northwest beginning in the spring of 2007.

Ballard, a 5-5 infielder who bats and throws right, was coached by Roger Huff at Norwalk High School. She was a four-year starter and was named to the All-State Second Team as a shortstop in 2005. A member of the National Honor Society, Ballard was a 2005 First Team All-Conference pick. She has maintained a career batting average of .375 and fielding percentage of .975. Ballard has earned varsity letters in tennis and basketball as well. She is a member of the 2005 Iowa State Championship team.

"I am truly excited to sign Kaila," said Anderson. "She will be an impact player as a freshman. She is a great middle infielder and her passion for softball is evident on the field."

Leslie, a 5-2 utility player who bats and throws right, was coached by Michelle Mages at Mill Valley High School. Leslie earned 2005 First Team All-State recognition. A member of the Kansas City Peppers Gold club team, Leslie was part of two teams to win the ASA 16-and-under KC Metro title. As a prep at Mill Valley in 2004-05, Leslie totaled 62 at-bats with a batting average of .419 including a .581 slugging percentage. She swiped 13 bases in 13 attempts and scored 21 runs.

"Leslie is a fantastic addition to our team," said Anderson. "Erin is very athletic and extremely quick which will help us to replace Katy John (who holds the stolen base record at Northwest). Erin can play infield (3B or 2B) or outfield and along with her speed, she will be very valuable to our program."

Roorda, a left-handed outfielder, has been a three-year varsity letter winner at Millard North High School. A member of National Honor Society, Roorda was selected to the 2005 Omaha World Herald Second Team All-State Class A squad. Roorda helped Millard North to second place in the 2003 Class A Tournament after making the state finals in 2002. Millard was named the Class A District MVP as a junior and made the All-Division First Team this past fall.

is a left-handed outfielder with great speed," said Anderson. "She is a true team player and will be a great asset to our team. She has a terrific attitude and is willing to do whatever is necessary to make herself and the team better. She will red-shirt as a freshman since we will have four senior outfielders in the 2007 season."
