Northwest Softball Signs Whitney Krystof
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State softball program added its fourth member of the 2006 Signing Class after Whitney Krystof (Orland Park, Ill) signed a National Letter of Intent today, announced head coach Susan Anderson. Krystof, a high school senior at Carl Sandburg High, joins junior college transfer Tristin Brown (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) and high school seniors Nicole "Cola" Krueger (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Megan Simpson (Blue Springs, Mo.) set to play next spring.
"I am excited to have a freshman catcher come in and develop her skills behind (current catcher) Sarah Johnson," said Anderson. "Whitney has a great arm and is a confident, intense player. She is a very tall target behind the plate and definitely has power in her hitting."
The 6-0 catcher, who also played outfield and first base as a prep, led her team to conference titles in 2002 & 2003. As a member of the 2004 Orland Park Rockers club team, Krystof batted .491 with 36 RBIs and six homeruns. She was Team MVP and part of the National Honor Society as a senior. As a junior, Krystof hit .440 including a .680 slugging percentage and .494 on-base mark. Krystof also participated in volleyball and basketball.
Northwest enters the 2005 MIAA Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will play No. 1 Emporia State on Friday. First pitch from Shawnee, Kan., is scheduled for 12 p.m.
