John and Pride Set Northwest Records
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State softball juniors Katy John (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Ashley Pride (Ravenwood, Mo.) set a few single-season records this past weekend. On Thursday against #16 Missouri Western, Pride hit a two-run homer in Game 1 to tie Angie McCoy's 10 roundtrippers in 2002. The two RBIs in that contest also pushed her past McCoy's season best of 38 - Pride currently stands with 44 on the season.
At the Central Missouri State Invitational this past Saturday, John set the standard for runs (37) and at bats (185) breaking the 34 runs scored by two Bearcats and Kendra Smith's 182 at bats in 2000. In the 9-1 win versus Southwest Baptist, John tied the mark of 56 games played by two other 'Cats.
Also, John keeps adding to her school-best stolen base output as she currently holds 33 - she broke Smith's 20 SBs against Southwest Baptist (Mar. 22). In addition, John set the Northwest single-game standard with four stolen bases against Minnesota Duluth (Mar. 22).
Northwest will play in its final regular season doubleheader by hosting Washburn this Tuesday at 3 p.m. If the Bearcats, who are eighth in the MIAA standings win at least one against the Lady Blues, they will look forward to the MIAA Tournament in Shawnee, Kan. on May 6-7.
