Tristin Brown Signs for 2006 Recruiting ClassMARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State softball program and head coach Susan Anderson announced the signing of junior college transfer Tristin Brown (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) to a NCAA National Letter-of-Intent today. Brown, who is playing her sophomore season at Johnson County Community College this spring, joins Nicole "Cola" Krueger (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Megan Simpson (Blue Springs, Mo.) in the 2006 recruiting class. Krueger and Simpson signed in mid-November.
"Brown is a utility player that we will use in a lot of different spots," said Anderson. "She is very athletic, aggressive and has very good speed. She will definitely be a great addition for us next year because she is so versatile and can add a lot of power."
As a teammate of current Bearcat catcher Sarah Johnson in 2004, Brown earned Second Team All-Region VI/District C and Second Team All-East Jayhawk Conference honors. The NFCA Academic All-America pick as a freshman drove in a team-best 48 runners and batted .427 (67-for-157) with nine doubles, two triples and 12 home runs. On the national scene, Brown tied for 12th in roundtrippers and tied for 22nd in RBIs as a frosh. Her 12 homers were the highest output for a first-year player at JCCC and third highest overall.
During her prep career at Excelsior Springs High School, Brown was a three-time choice on the All-Suburban Small Conference 8 Team. As a catcher, she was honored on the All-District Team on three occasions. She led her squad to conference titles in 1999 and 2000. The National Honor Society member hit above .300 in three of her four seasons.
Thus far in 2005, Brown leads her JCCC program in hitting (.369) and is second with two triples and third with seven doubles. As of Apr. 21, JCCC stood with a 32-10 mark.
