KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State University softball team lost a pair of games Thursday at Truman State. The Bulldogs took a 6-0 win in game one and won the nightcap 2-1.

Game one was close, until the bottom of the firth inning when Truman broke the game open. The Bulldogs scored once against Northwest starter Shelly MacDonald (Jr., Lawson, Mo.) in the bottom of the third and led 1-0.

But Truman put together four hits and four runs in the bottom of the fifth, knocking MacDonald out of the game. Talina Canon (Fr., Maryville, Mo.) came on to get Northwest out of the inning, but the damage was done as Truman took a 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs pushed across a single run in the sixth and took a six-run lead.

Meanwhile, Bulldog starter Loni Wedemeier held Northwest to just two hits in the game and picked up the shutout victory.

Truman scored single runs in the second and fourth against Northwest starter Kelly Hainline (Jr., Topeka, Kan.) to take a 2-0 lead. The Bearcats pulled back within one run, when Megan Spring (Sr., Warsaw, Mo.) singled to score Katy John (Soph., Blue Springs, Mo.) in the top of the sixth.

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh, Angie McCoy (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) led off with a double. But the 'Cats were unable to advance McCoy past third base. Breanna Wonderly scattered four Northwest hits and allowed just one run to pick up the victory for Truman. Hainline allowed just six hits and two runs to take the hard-luck loss for the 'Cats.

Northwest is now 20-29 overall and 9-7 in the MIAA.
