St. Mary's Dominant in Sweep of Northwest
| Bearcat Numbers NWMSU 0 1 1 | SAN ANTONIO , Texas -- The St. Mary's Rattlers swept a doubleheader from Northwest Missouri State University in softball action Saturday. St. Mary's shut the Bearcats out 8-0 in the first game, while racking up a 12-3 win in the nightcap. The Rattlers scored three runs in the bottom of the first off Northwest starter Shelly MacDonald (Jr., Lawson, Mo.) and added three more in the fourth. The game was called due to the eight-run rule when St. Mary's pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the fifth. Melissa Nimmo (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) had the lone Bearcat hit in game one. Meanwhile, St. Mary's pounded out 12 hits. Game two started on a positive note for Northwest. The Bearcats scored three runs in the top of the first. Nimmo hit a two-run home run and Kaytee Schulenberg (Fr., Independence, Mo.) added an RBI single. But that's all Northwest would get. St. Mary's scored one in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second to take a 4-3 lead. The flood gates opened from there as the Rattlers scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth to run away with the victory. Kelly Hainline (Jr., Topeka, Kan.) took the loss for Northwest. |
