St. Edward's 3
AUSTIN, Texas -- Northwest Missouri State University opened an early-season trip to Texas with a pair of losses at St. Edward's Friday. The Bearcats fell 6-1 in the opener and dropped the nightcap 3-2.
In game one, Northwest jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Lindsay Stephenson (Soph., Omaha, Neb.) scored on a passed ball. But St. Edward's scored three in the bottom of the first and two in the third to grab a 5-1 lead. That's all the offense St. Edward's would need, cruising to the 6-1 victory. Kelly Hainline (Jr., Topeka, Kan.) took the loss, dropping her record to 3-5.
Northwest led 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh in game two. But St. Edward's pushed across three runs to take a 3-2 victory. Megan Spring (Sr., Warsaw, Mo.) plated Angie McCoy (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) with an RBI double in the third. Katy John (Soph., Independence, Mo.) scored Tami Phillips (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) on a ground ball in the seventh to make it 2-0. St. Edward's took advantage of three hits and a Bearcat error to score three runs, two of which were unearned, in the bottom of the seventh to escape with the victory. Shelly MacDonald (Jr., Lawson, Mo.) took the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season.
