Bearcats handed a tough loss in MIAA tournament
Tahlequah, Okla. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team lost in the first round of the MIAA tournament Tuesday to Northeastern State 2-1.
Northeastern scored early in the first half in the 19th minute. The RiverHawks turned around and scored their second goal one minute later to go up 2-0.
Northwest would finally get on the board when Elizabeth Walde put in her fifth goal of the season during the 56th minute with an assist from Victoria Von Mende from Anna Calgaard's corner kick.
The Bearcats fought hard but couldn't put in another goal as they fell to Northeastern State 2-1 ending their season. It was the last game in the collegiate careers for seniors Amanda Bundrant and Shalynn Durham.
“We have to finish strong, we didn't finish strong this year,” said Head Coach Tracy Hoza about the season. “We've got a good bunch of kids. We only graduate two girls, so we are excited to have a lot of returners coming back.”
The Bearcats finish the 2012 season 8-7-3 overall and 6-5-2 in the MIAA after qualifying for the league tournament for a second consecutive year.
