Bearcats ready for first round of MIAA tournament
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Norwest Missouri State women’s soccer team heads to Tahlequa, Okla. Tuesday to take on Northeastern State 7 p.m. for the first round of the MIAA tournament.
Northwest finished the season 8-6-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the conference and ended up fifth in the final standings.
The Bearcats will be taking on the RiverHawks who finished fourth in the MIAA standings with a season record of 12-4-1, 7-4-1.
The two teams met previously this year as Northwest won the game 3-0.
“Northeastern had a lot of goal scoring opportunities in the game against us,” Said Head Coach Tracy Hoza when asked about the rematch. “They are very talented in the midfield.”
The reoccurring theme for the Bearcats this season is all the close games they have played.
Northwest has been in 11 games decided by one goal or less. Six of those games were decided in overtime. The Bearcats are 5-3-3 in those 11 matches.
Northeastern State comes into the game number one in the MIAA in goals as they are averaging 2.41 goals per game.
The RiverHawks have only been shutout twice this year. They were shutout against No.12 Central Oklahoma and by Northwest earlier this season.
“Our girls are really excited, I’m really excited and it’s going to be a tremendous atmosphere,” said Coach Hoza.
