Bearcats walk away with 1-0 victory
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s soccer team hit an early goal and played great defense to hold on to a 1-0 victory over Southwest Baptist Friday at Bearcat Pitch.
Northwest came into the game ranked fourth in the MIAA. The top four seeds in the conference will host a first round match in the MIAA tournament which begins Tuesday, Oct. 30. The semifinals and championship matches will follow Nov. 2 and 4 at the highest remaining seed.
Elizabeth Walde put in her fourth goal of the season in the 19th minute to give Northwest a 1-0 lead. For Walde it was her second game winning goal in 2012.
Walde’s goal was the first time in the last five games the Bearcats have scored in the first half.
From there Northwest held the lead and the defense turned it on to get their fifth shutout of the season. The Bearcat defense allowed just three shots on goal.
Northwest moves to 8-4-3 and 6-2-2 and will host Central Missouri (10-1-3, 6-0-2) Sunday. The game will be played at Bearcat Pitch with kickoff scheduled for 1p.m.
