Bearcats have five games left in the regular season
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s soccer team will hit the road to play Nebraska-Kearney Thursday under the lights at 7 p.m. and take on Fort Hays Saturday with a start time of 11 a.m.
Northwest boasts a record of 7-3-2 in the regular season and 5-1-1 in MIAA play. The playoffs are right around the corner and the last five games of the season will be pivotal.
The playoff set up is as follows: The top eight teams earn a postseason berth as the top four team host a first round match. This means every game matters.
Currently the Bearcats are sitting pretty in third place in the conference standings and control their own destiny.
“I believe no matter what, your destiny is always in your own hands” said Head Coach Tracy Hoza.
“This week will be a big week as we match up well against both teams,” Hoza said.
Thursday the Bearcats meet up with Nebraska-Kearney (6-6-1, 1-5-1). The Lopers are currently 11th in the standings and trying to upset those who are fighting for postseason spots.
Saturday the Bearcats have another MIAA matchup with Fort Hays (7-5, 3-4). The Tigers are sitting in seventh place in the MIAA and are trying to make a move into the top four.
“With five games left this isn’t a time to play like we have been, but it is time to play better,” Hoza said when asked about the season winding down.
“These next two games are our last road games and we need to compete, so we can come back and finish the season strong at home.”
Northwest will finish the regular season at Bearcat Pitch with three straight home games starting Friday Oct. 19 with a 3 p.m. kickoff against Southwest Baptist.
