Northwest beats Emporia 1-0
Emporia, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s soccer team pulled out another close victory Friday at Emporia State 1-0.
The Bearcats played their seventh game of the year that was decided by one goal or less. Northwest has played great in tight games going 4-1-2 in those seven matches.
Emporia and Northwest played a very even first half against each other. ESU managed six shots on goal while the Bearcats posted five of their own.
Both defenses stood strong in the first half keeping the game knotted at zero.
Shaylynn Durham made her first start of the year and made it count. Durham had four saves on her way to her first shutout of the season.
The match was getting into the later minutes when Taylor Sellers put in her first goal of the season. Sellers put in what would eventually become the game winner during the 80th minute.
Northwest is now 6-3-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in MIAA play.
The Bearcats will be back home Sunday to take on Washburn (3-8, 3-3). The match will be at Bearcat Pitch with a start time slated for 1 p.m.
