Adams posts shutout as Bearcats win in OT
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s soccer team won a big MIAA game 1-0 in two overtimes against Missouri Western in St. Joseph on Friday.
Both defenses dug in their cleats for a long scoreless battle.
The first half consisted of seven shots between the two teams. Ball control was at the forefront of the match early on. A back and forth battle ensued with the Bearcats managing five shots on goal.
Northwest was unable to capitalize on three corner kick attempts.
The second half came down to big saves from both goalies. Kelsey Adams came up huge with a diving stop to keep the game at zero.
Anna Calgaard’s shot went off the fingertips of the Griffon goalie late in the second half. Northwest would have to win it in overtime.
The first overtime was about possession. Neither team was able to get a clean shot on goal. The Bearcat defense came up big stopping two potential break-a-ways.
Going into the second overtime there had not been much offense to speak of. That is until Elizabeth Walde ended the stalemate in the 4th minute of the second OT. Walde’s unassisted goal helped move the Bearcats to 4-2-1, 2-1.
Head Coach Tracy Hoza was all smiles as she talked about the game. “The girls played so hard out there, I’m so happy for them.” When it came to the shutout she was happy to give praise, “Kelsey came up big for us tonight, the whole defense stepped up. It’s great to get a shutout.”
Northwest returns to Bearcat Pitch Tuesday to take on Graceland. The non-conference match will start at 4 p.m.
