Bearcats win road match
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats (7-3-2, 4-1 MIAA) defeated the Missouri Western State University Griffons (3-5, 0-2 MIAA) 5-1 Thursday night at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The first half was a defensive battle between both teams, with neither team able to find the back of the net. The Bearcats outshot the Griffons 10-5 in the first half, with a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks. Bearcats' goalkeeper Kelsey Adams picked up two saves in the half.
The Bearcats would strike first in the 56th minute when Victoria Von Mende found the back of the net from 10 yards out to make it 1-0, Northwest. Northwest would quickly take control of the game when Hannah Silvey found the net just four minutes later in the 60th minute, from 5 yards out, upping the Bearcats lead to 2-0; it was Silvey's first goal of the season.
Missouri Western would get on the board in the 61st minute when Ashley Gunder found the back of the net off of a pass from Audrey Anderson to make the score 2-1.
Emilee Davison would up the Bearcats' lead to 3-1 in the 82nd minute when she found the back of the net for the second time this season.
Northwest would put the game out of reach in the 86th minute when Tammie Eiberger scored her ninth goal of the season off of an assist from Von Mende to put the Bearcats up 4-1. The Bearcats would get their final goal in the 89th minute when Eiberger again would find the net securing a 5-1 victory.
The Bearcats outshot the Griffons 26-10 in the match, a season high in shot attempts for Northwest. It was the most since the Bearcats' win over Southwest Baptist on Sept. 17, when the Bearcats outshot the Bearcats 24-17.
Bearcats' goalie Kelsey Adams collected four saves in the win and improved her overall record in goal to 7-3-2.
Von Mende and Eiberger both picked up their tenth goals of the season Thursday night to lead the Bearcats.
Up Next: The Bearcats continue MIAA play this Saturday when the host the Fort Hays State Tigers (4-8-1, 1-5 MIAA) at 11 a.m. at Bearcat Pitch. This is Fort Hays State's first year of having a women's soccer program and Saturday's match-up will be the first meeting between the Bearcats and Tigers.
