Northwest travels to Missouri Western

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team returns to MIAA action Thursday night when they travel to conference rival Missouri Western.
Northwest (6-3-2, 3-1 MIAA) matches up against the Griffons (3-6-0, 0-3 MIAA) Thursday night in St. Joseph at 7 p.m. The Bearcats are coming off of a 2-1 week for the week of Oct. 4 as they routed Emporia State 2-1 but were then blanked just two days later by Truman State 0-2. However, Northwest rebounded quickly and beat Washburn 2-1 Saturday; it was the Bearcats' first ever win over Washburn when facing them in Topeka.
Victoria Von Mende continued her scoring ways for Northwest scoring three of the Bearcats' four goals scored last week. Von Mende scored each of the Northwest's goals in their 2-1 win over Washburn and then followed that up with scoring the first goal in Northwest's 2-1 win over Truman State. Fiona Maloney scored her second goal of the season which was also the winning goal in Saturday's win over Washburn.
The Missouri Western Griffons are looking for their first MIAA win of the season when the host Northwest on Thursday night. The Griffons are coming off of two consecutive shutouts in which they were blanked 0-1 by both Truman State and Southwest Baptist. Freshman forward K.C Ramsell is Missouri Western's leading scoring having scored 5 of their 10 goals this season.
This will be the fourteenth meeting between Northwest and Missouri Western and the Bearcats are 8-2-3 when facing the Griffons. Last season the Bearcats split with Missouri Western.
Up Next: Northwest will return home to Bearcat Pitch Saturday, Oct. 15 as they play host to Fort Hays State at 11 a.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
