‘Cats cruise past Falcons
WICHITA, Ks. - The Northwest Missouri State University soccer team was victorious in their first road game of the year. The Bearcats picked up their second win of the season beating Friends University 5-1 in the first ever meeting between the teams.
The Bearcats improved to 2-1 on the season after picking up their first win of the season last Sunday, beating Wayne State University 2-1. With the loss the Falcons fell to 0-3.
Northwest struck first less than five minutes into the game when Tammie Eiberger scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Anna Calgaard. The Bearcats struck next in the 25th minute when Victoria Von Mende scored her first goal of the season. Northwest upped their lead to 3-0 when Von Mende scored her second goal of the game off of a corner kick by Jacque Dedovesh. The Bearcats struck for the fourth and final time for the half when this time Calgaard scored off an assist from Jonna Welch.
Friends University netted their only goal of the game, and first goal of the season, in the 43rd minute.
The Bearcats extended their lead to 5-1 when Tammie Eiberger scored her second goal of the game and the only goal of the second half in the 77th minute.
The Bearcats continue their road trip when they travel to Newman University on Saturday to close out the weekend. Northwest is looking to avenge the double overtime loss to Newman that started the 2010 season for the Bearcats.
