Northwest Opens 2011 at Home This Weekend
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University soccer is looking to rebound after an inconsistent 2010 season as they open at home this weekend.
The Bearcats will take on Texas A&M-Commerce Friday at 5 p.m. and Wayne State Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
The Bearcats were 3-10-5 overall last season and 1-5-3 at the home. Although Northwest struggled to score offensively, the Bearcats were one of the top teams defensively in the MIAA during the 2010 season.
Northwest brings to the program twelve new faces while returning nine from last year's squad. Of the nine Bearcat returners, Amanda Bundrant, Anna Calgaard, and Jacque Dedoves, who were All-MIAA honorable mention honorees a year ago, return for the 2011 season.
Bundrant, the native of Lenexa, Kan., led the Bearcats with four goals in 2010. Bundrant started 16 games last season and also added an assist in 1,249 minutes of action.
Calgaard, who hails from Omaha, Neb., Calgaard led Northwest and was tied for seventh in the MIAA with five assists as a freshman. Calgaard also added one goal last season for the Bearcats.
Dedovesh is a native of Lee's Summit, Mo. as she started all 18 games last season for Northwest and was second on the team logging 1,628 minutes.
Along with the returners from last season the Bearcats are excited to have added depth to their attack as well as numerous players who will help tighten their midfield and defense going into the 2011 season.
