Adams shuts out Lions in finale

JOPLIN, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State freshman goal keeper Kelsey Adams recorded her second shutout of the season in helping the Bearcats dual to a scoreless tie against Missouri Southern Thursday at Hal Bodon Field.
Adams stopped 10 shots including seven during the two, 10-minute overtimes. The Bearcats held a 14-7 shot advantage at the end of regulation, but were out-shot 12-0 in two extra periods.
Adams' 10 saves is her third-highest tally this season. She finished her first collegiate season with 90 stops in 14 games, the eighth-best total in program history.
Fellow frosh Anna Calgaard had closed within one of the Bearcats' single-season saves record but finished with five. Calgaard combined for four assists in four games heading into the finale. She had three of the Bearcats' eight shots on goal against Missouri Southern.
Amanda Bundrant, who finished the season with a team-high four goals, took three shots Thursday, including two on goal. Randi Russell made eight saves to earn the shut out for the Lions (4-8-5, 4-6-5 MIAA).
Northwest finished with a 3-10-5 record and a 3-9-4 mark in MIAA play. The Bearcats will place seventh in the conference standings if Truman beats or ties Missouri Western Saturday.
