Sanders Nets Goal on Senior Day
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Kelsey Sanders netted her second goal of the season Saturday afternoon against Nebraska-Omaha, but it was not enough Northwest Missouri State fell 3-1 to the Mavericks at Bearcat Pitch on Senior Day.
Sanders' goal, in her final game at Bearcat Pitch, came in the 14th-minute when she took the pass from Anna Calgaard and deposited it into the left corner of the net. The assist was Calgaard's team-high fifth of the year. Melanie McCromick tied the game in the 36th-minute and it went into the half 1-1.
Megan Kingston and Monica Bosilevac each added second half goals to give the Mavericks (9-7-1, 9-5-1 MIAA) the lead for good. Nebraska-Omaha out-shot the Bearcats in the game 27-7 and also had 11 corner kicks to Northwest's three.
Kelsey Adams made a career-high 13 saves in the game for the Bearcats who fall to 3-10-4 and 3-9-3 in the MIAA.
In all, six Bearcats played their final game in a home uniform for Northwest on Saturday. Hannah Barnett, Elizabeth Fulton, Andrea Freeman, Ashley Miller, Amanda Olah and Sanders all stepped onto Bearcat Pitch for the final time.
Up next for the Bearcats is the 2010 season finale on November 4 as Northwest travels to Joplin, Mo., to face Missouri Southern at 6 p.m.
