Second-half hat trick lifts Washburn
TOPEKA, Kan.-Washburn scored three unassisted goals in the second half to separate itself from Northwest Missouri State and earned a 3-0 win against the Bearcats Saturday night at Yager Stadium. Northwest (2-9-4, 2-8-3 MIAA) will return to the Pitch Thursday in a 3 p.m. contest at Southwest Baptist.
The Bearcats played with a strong southern wind at their backs throughout the first half but failed to break through against Ashley Klone, who recorded her second shutout this season. The Lady Blues (4-7-3, 4-6-2) out-shot Northwest 12-0 using the wind in the second half and needed less than a minute to take the lead.
Caysie Beetley scored her first collegiate goal just 51 seconds into the second half. Lauren Henry scored in the 68th minute and Megan Buckley added extra insurance in the 88th minute. It's the third game in a row that Northwest has surrendered at least three scores.
