Bundrant, Calgaard Lead Northwest to Tie

Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Amanda Bundrant and Anna Calgaard put on a two-women show in Northwest Missouri State's 3-3 tie with Emporia State on Tuesday afternoon from Bearcat Pitch.

The Bearcats (2-8-4, 2-7-3 MIAA) wasted little time getting the offensive fireworks going as Calgaard scored her first career collegiate goal a little over a minute into the game. Calgaard took the ball off a deflection from a Hornet defender and fired it into the back of the net to give Northwest an early lead.

Emporia State (1-8-4, 1-7-3 MIAA) would answer with goals in the eighth and 15th minutes with goals from Lauren Cathey and Ashley Hill, respectively to take a 2-1 lead into the break. The Hornets would score again just eight minutes into the second period as Amanda Penney scored off a Cathey assist.

The Bearcats would respond shortly after, when Bundrant took a crossing pass from Calgaard and poked it past Emporia State goalkeeper Natalie Hoernig to cut the Hornet lead to one. Bundrant would put in her second goal of the game, this time off of a Calgaard corner kick in the 66th minute, tying the game at 3-3, where it would stay.

Northwest's best chance to un-clinch the game came with 40 seconds left when Erica Hatcher's shot to the left side corner was just deflected off of Hoernig's hands and eventually covered-up by Hoernig.

Neither team got very many chances in the overtime periods as both of Emporia's shot attempts were easily saved by Kelsey Adams. Northwest mustered just one shot in the second overtime from Jordan Albright.

Northwest out-shot the Hornets 17-10 in the contest and also had six corner kicks to Emporia's two. Hoernig made seven saves in the tie for the Hornets, while Adams entered the game in the first period for Liz Fulton and made four saves while allowing one goal.

Next Up: The Bearcats will travel to Washburn on Saturday night for a contest with the Lady Blues at 6 p.m.
