Bearcats Battle Truman to 1-1 Draw

Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Bearcat soccer team behind a strong defensive showing, battled Truman to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Pitch. The game marks the first time in program history that Northwest has played Truman to a tie in a match. The Bearcats were 0-20 all-time against the Bulldogs coming into today.

Freshman Emilee Davison put the Bearcats on the board first in the 12th minute when she stole a Truman pass deep in Bulldog territory and fired a shot into the upper left-side corner of the net. The goal was Davison's second of the season and it ties her for the team lead with Kelly Obley. It was also the third time in the last four games that Northwest has scored first.

In the second half Truman (5-2-4, 4-1-4 MIAA) went on the attack firing nine shots in all during the period to Northwest's two. The Bulldogs would out-shoot Northwest in the game 20-8. Olivia Hayes knotted up the game in the 77th minute when she headed in a pass from Hayley Bollwerk. The goal was Hayes' fourth of the season.

Neither team registered a shot on goal during the two overtime periods, with Truman taking five shots in all and the Bearcats firing two. The best look either team got came in the second overtime when Andrea Freeman's free kick sailed high of the net in the 105th minute.

Truman had eight corner kicks in the contest while Northwest had just one. Liz Fulton made her second straight start in net for the Bearcats. Fulton recorded a career-high eight saves in the match. Truman's Jayne Grisham saved two shots for the Bulldogs.

Northwest (1-7-3, 1-6-2 MIAA) will host Missouri Western on Thursday of this week in a match beginning at 3 p.m. The Bearcats played Western to a 1-1 tie in their first meeting back in September. Obley recorded the Bearcats' lone goal in that contest.
