Soccer skid hits three
OMAHA, Neb.-Nebraska-Omaha got goals from three different players to top Northwest Missouri State 3-0 Thursday at UNO Soccer Field. It's the third straight win for the Mavericks (4-4-1, 4-2-1 MIAA) who handed the Bearcats (1-6-2, 1-5-1) their third straight loss. Northwest will look to end the skid at home Saturday against Missouri Southern (11:30 a.m.).
Nebraska-Omaha limited Northwest to one shot on goal and took 12 corner kicks in the contest. Jordyn Braun broke a scoreless tie on one of them after tipping a corner from teammate Hilary Horvatic in the 17th minute. Bri Exstrom made it 2-0 in the 37th minute after bouncing a header off the crossbar and into the net. It's the third goal of the season for Extrom.
The Mavericks' third goal came early in the second half. Defender Maggie Olson converted a pass from Megan Kingston to notch her first score of the season.
Northwest was out-shot 15-8 and was shut out for the fourth time this season. Goal keeper Kelsey Adams made five saves before giving way to Liz Fulton, who held the Mavericks scoreless for the final 25 minutes. Lauren Fox and Katelyn Tschida shared the shutout for Nebraska-Omaha.
